You do not always need the message feed open. Background listening lets you hear messages while another app is on screen or your iPhone is locked.
Start the audio first
Choose a channel and press play. Check that audio is playing at a comfortable volume. You can then lock your iPhone or switch to another app.
Use the lock-screen controls
Playback controls on the lock screen let you pause or resume without returning to the feed.
When connecting headphones or another audio device, check the selected output. The app can still be running while sound is being sent to a different device.
If playback stops
Return to the app and check playback and your internet connection. A call, another audio app or a connection change can interrupt the sound.
